Because, I heard about the coming earthquake in L.A. and I am worried. I live 2 hours from L.A.Yeah that could level it. Especially since you are close to the san andreas fault. Still though, that is one hell of an earthquake. It depends on your proximity to the epicenter of the quake, and also whether you are sitting on a fault line.
In S. CA, almost everone's sitting on a fault line, but fortunately, they don't all go off at once!
When I lived in Huntington Beach, there was a 7.2 (?) out in the desert and we were shaken (but not stirred!).
Most of the heavy damage will be around the epicenter of the quake.
You can check maps online that will tell you if you're on any major fault lines too.
I've learned not to worry about anything. What you worry about never happens. It's those things you weren't expecting that blindside you.Depends on the construction and the soil its on. I was in the 1989 Quake, and a 7.8 is very strong shaker.7.8 is a huge shake and there would be signifacant damage to any house. But try not to worry about. I lived for many years in New Zealand and had my share quakes, the biggest being 7.5Perhaps. It depends on how the house was build. A 7.8 is a pretty large quake. level itCalifornia has the best earthquake proofing building codes in the world.
Lots of variables in an earthquake. 7.8 is pretty powerful though.
The house will take damage in a 7.8. Windows will break ceiling fixtures will fall on you. Lots you can do to secure things like cupboards and water tanks. A single wood frame house is not likely to collapse though.
Don't be worried. I've lived in L.A. all of my life (I'm 50) & I've been through my share of earthquakes..I won't lie and say I'm not afraid of them also, but a three year home 2 hours out of L.A. should hold up ok.
Don't drive yourself nutz thinking about it.
Just make sure you have an earthquake bag ready for all of the people in your household along with water, trash bags, etc.

Can anyone tell me the name of the painting/poster Chuck Bass has hanging on his bedroom wall over his bed?
Can you help me solve this physics problem?
